Shimano J05A disc brake pads made of synthetic resin and equipped with aluminum backing plates, as well as Ice-Tech cooling fins. Wear resistance has improved by 50% compared to the previous J03A model. Recommended for XTR, Deore XT, SLX, Deore, and Alfine brake calipers.
- Synthetic resin pads are quieter than metallic ones but offer slightly lower performance and increased wear.
- Metallic pads are more durable than resin ones, more resistant to fading, and provide consistent deceleration in both dry and wet conditions. Metallic pads may produce noise during braking.
Brake fade affects braking performance when applied continuously for long periods. Shimano has introduced Ice-Tech brake discs and pads to create a cooling technology that allows high braking performance.
The brake disc features a three-layer stainless steel sandwich structure around an aluminum core. It dissipates heat better and reduces surface temperature.
The brake pads have aluminum cooling fins, which further optimize radiation properties. The disc design combined with the cooling fins results in increased pad lifespan, reduced braking noise, less fading, and also reduces weight.
